The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its last representative in the Sokoto State House of Assembly following the defection of Abdullahi Randa to the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC).
Randa, who represents Tureta Constituency, formally announced his defection in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary by Speaker Tukur Bala.
Speaking with journalists after the session, the lawmaker attributed his decision to the prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, which he said has weakened the party’s effectiveness.
“The lingering disputes have affected the party’s ability to function as a credible opposition,” he said. “After careful consideration, I concluded that the platform is no longer viable.”
Randa’s exit comes amid a wave of defections from the PDP in the state assembly. On April 7, seven lawmakers — Abubakar Magaji, Habibu Modachi, Buhari Haliru, Bashar Jabo, Nasiru Adamu, Awaisu Aliyu, and Atiku Liman — also left the party for the ADC, while Muhammad Mas’ud of Shagari Constituency joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
With these developments, the Sokoto Assembly now comprises 22 APC members and eight ADC members, leaving the PDP without any representation.
