The gathering which held in Abuja on Thursday, marked the first meeting of the Forum of SGF and SSGs for the year.

The forum, themed: “Improving Policy Coordination and Implementation for Sustainable National Development: The Role of Secretaries to State Governments,” was designed to equip SSGs with the knowledge and tools necessary to assist their governors in effective governance.

Addressing the assembly, Akume emphasised the critical role of SSGs in translating national policies into tangible action at the state level.

“As Secretaries to State Governments, you bear the immense responsibility of tailoring these policies to the unique needs of your respective states,” Akume stated, underscoring the importance of their positions in the governance structure.

The SGF highlighted the challenges facing the nation, particularly in the light of the bold reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“Such reforms come with their own set of challenges,” Akume acknowledged, “as we continue the arduous but rewarding journey of nation-building.”

He stressed that the success of these initiatives hinges on effective coordination between the federal and state governments.

Akume urged the state secretaries to fully engage with the presentations and discussions targeted at leaving them with actionable insights to improve their work.

Notable speakers at the event included former SGF, Senator Pius Anyim, who delivered the keynote address, bringing his wealth of experience to inspire and guide the current officeholders.

Akume did not shy away from addressing the complexities of the role, “Being a Secretary to Government is not without its difficulties,” he noted.

He called for adaptability, creativity, and an unwavering resolve to confront challenges head-on.

The former Senate President also encouraged the SSGs to be bold and imaginative in advocating for their ideas and initiatives.

Speaking further, the SGF, Senator Akume emphasised the urgency of the SSGs’ task, particularly in the face of global challenges such as economic disruptions and climate change.

“Now more than ever, the role of Secretaries to State Governments is pivotal in translating policy into actionable outcomes that directly improve the lives of Nigerians,” Akume declared.
