PICTORIAL: Kano Police Launch ‘Operation Kukan Kura’, Arrest 98 Suspects

The Kano State Police Command has launched a special security initiative tagged ‘Operation Kukan Kura,’ resulting in the arrest of 98 suspects across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made the disclosure during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Thursday, where he also highlighted the Command’s strategies and recent achievements.

The CP revealed the newly launched Special Operation was conceived to act as a radar to detect and nip any threat of thuggery-related crimes within Kano Metropolis.

Other of such threats include banditry and kidnapping along Kano borders, drug trafficking drug abuse as well as other social vices in the state.

He emphasised that, “Significant breakthroughs have been made since the launch of the operation on 1st of July, 2025.”

According to the Commissioner, the initiative aligned with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, in promoting a community-oriented approach to policing.

CP Bakori revealed that between the last press briefing on June 16 till date, a total of 98 suspects were apprehended in connection with 21 major criminal cases.

These included incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, vehicle theft, fraud, and thuggery.

He saiod that the suspects were arrested following targeted operations across the state, particularly in crime-prone areas.

In terms of recoveries, the police confiscated a range of dangerous weapons and items suspected to be proceeds or tools of crime.

The recovered items include six stolen vehicles, eight tricycles, ten motorcycles, thirteen mobile phones, five motor batteries, and three spare tyres.

Officers also seized illicit substances comprising 42 tubes of red solution, 35 parcels and 1,123 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, 86 bottles of the lethal mixture known as “suck and die,” 30 sachets and 43 pieces of Exol tablets, as well as 10 sachets and 53 pieces of diazepam tablets.

Additionally, sixteen cutlasses, ninety-eight knives, and $10,000 in counterfeit U.S. currency were recovered during the operations.

CP Bakori reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and called for continued public support.
