Kano State Police Command has dismantled two armed robbery syndicates, arresting six suspects and recovering four stolen vehicles in recent operations.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa said on May 10, following intelligence reports, a Tactical Team led by CSP Rabiu Gidado of the Special Intervention Squad arrested one Saidu Abubakar from Dan-Saidu Quarters, Naibawa.
Kiyawa said Abubakar was found in possession of a stolen 2016 Toyota Corolla, which was reported missing since May 2.
The police spokesperson explained that the suspect confessed to being a part of a syndicate involved in vehicle snatching in the state.
In a related case, three suspects — Abdulaziz Usman (27) of Goron Dutse Quarters, Umar Abubakar (22) of Kazaure (both from Jigawa State), and Sunusi Abdullahi (28) from Karaye LGA, Kano were arrested for an armed robbery incident that occurred on May 1 in Yan-Katako, Ladanai Quarters, Hotoro.
The suspects allegedly attacked a household at around 3:30 a.m. with cutlasses and knives, stealing a black Toyota Yaris, laptops, a phone, cash, and other valuables in the attack.
In the same vein, police also apprehended one Umar Aliyu from Kaduna State, who was identified as a receiver of stolen property.
The Kano State Police Command and recovered a stolen Toyota Yaris and an unregistered Peugeot 406 linked to a robbery in Bechi Quarters, Kumbotso LGA of the state.
Additionally on May 16, detectives arrested Ibrahim Isa from Dorawa, Zawan LGA of Plateau State, while attempting to sell a stolen ash-colored Howo concrete mixer.
Investigations showed the vehicle was stolen earlier that day in Kazaure LGA, Jigawa State.
The suspects were said to be assisting with investigations and will face prosecution.
