Police Arrest 12 Persons With 56,300 Fake Dollar Notes In Gombe

Police in Gombe State have arrested 12 persons for possessing fake dollar notes worth 56,300 and 265,000 fake naira notes respectively.

Parading the suspects yesterday before newsmen at the Gombe State Police headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state, Mahid Muazu Abubakar, explained that the suspects were arrested around Funakaye and Dukku local government areas of the state.

According to him, the suspected culprits were nabbed as a result of a tip off and their prompt response on 23rd January, 2024 at about 11 am.

“Information was received at Bajoga Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 10: 00AM, one Buba Muhammadu aged 45 went to a chemist belonging to one Muhammad Ismail male of Sangaru Quarters Bajoga with a counterfeit one thousand naira note.

“On receipt of the complaint, detectives attached to the Division were detailed to the scene where they arrested the said Buba and recovered the exhibits,” he revealed.

He added that the arrest of Buba and further investigation led to the subsequent arrest of 53-years-old Jungudo Muhammadu, 30-years-old Adamu Yusuf Mallum, 60-years-old Abdullahi Abdullahi, 50-years-old Salihu Abdulhamid and 35-years-old Abubakar Abdullahi as well as Abubakar Muhammad who was arrested in Kano State.

The PPRO stated that exhibits recovered from the suspects include 50,300 counterfeited US Dollars, and 265,000 counterfeits of Nigerian currency.
