The anti-crime police operatives, while on patrol with a local vigilante group in Awka-Etiti, Idemili South LGA of the state, on sighting the hoodlums gave them a hot chase until the vehicle in which the criminals were driving ran into a ditch.

After a shootout that ensued between the police team and the gang members, the police operatives arrested two members of the gang and recovered four AK-47 rifles from the criminals.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the incident happened Tuesday.

He stated that the joint security team recovered one Toyota Highlander SUV with Registration No. Lagos GGE 408 GZ from the hoodlums.

The PPRO further stated that another team of the State Police Command’s Anti-Crime Squad, also working with a team of local vigilante, also on Tuesday intercepted a Toyota Venza Car with Registration No. Lagos EKY 746 JB at Neni in Anaocha LGA.

He stated that driver of the car fled on sighting the joint security team and that when the security operatives searched the vehicle, they recovered 34 live cartridges from the vehicle.

The State Police Command’s image-maker stated that Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who provided operational guidance to the joint security team during the operations, has praised all personnel involved for their discipline and operational effectiveness.

CP Adeoye, he further stated, has also directed the Rapid Response Squad at Awkuzu to take over investigation of both cases and charged the squad to ensure that the hoodlums were arrested and made to face the consequences of their actions.

“The Commissioner has vowed that Anambra State will be made too hot for any criminal gang to operate except they are ready to meet their waterloo,” DSP Tochukwu added.
