Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested four persons on the allegation of their involvement in armed robbery.

Spokesman of Enugu Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe disclosed that three (3) firearms and other incriminating exhibits were recovered during the separate operations from the suspects.

Ndukwe narrated that on 17th March, 2025 at about 11:40 p.m., operatives of the Command attached to Ikirike Division and the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad while on routine patrol along Agbani Road, swiftly responded to a distress call that led to the arrest of a 25-year-old Okechukwu Anthony.

He disclosed further that the suspect was arrested for attempting to rob a male victim of a smart wristwatch, adding that locally fabricated pistol, resembling a Beretta pistol without magazine or ammunition, was recovered from the suspect.

Similarly, the police spokesperson stated that at about 3:15 p.m. on the same date, operatives of the 9th Mile Division, acting on credible information about an ongoing armed robbery along Uzo-Nwa Money, Ngwo, in Udi LGA, moved swiftly to the scene.

Ndukwe said on sighting the police, the hoodlums fled, but with the support of vigilant citizens, two male suspects – Chukwudi Stephen Ngwu (aged 36) and Chibuike Ohaekelem (aged 23) were arrested, while one other escaped.

He stated that a locally fabricated pistol, also Beretta-like without a magazine or ammunition, and a small bag of rice were recovered.

The police spokesman added that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, together with their fleeing accomplice, had boarded the victim’s tricycle from New Market in Enugu along with the bag of rice to the scene where they robbed him.

In another incident on 15th September, 2025, at about 4:10 a.m., Ndukwe said operatives attached to Ogui Division, in synergy with law-abiding citizens arrested one Oluchukwu Stanley, aged 29.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect scaled the fence of a residential compound in Ogui-Nike, Enugu, and attempted to rob a male victim of his phone. He was subdued after the victim raised the alarm, and a locally made pistol was recovered from him.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations,” he stated.

Ndukwe disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Mamnam Bitrus Giwa commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism and reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the State of criminal elements.

The Commissioner urged law-abiding citizens to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
