Police Arrest 61-yr-old Man With Firearms In Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 61-year-old Ewa Eben for allegedly being in possession of one double-barrel and four (4) locally fabricated guns.

Police said the suspect was apprehended at Abo Emeh Community of Boki local government area of the state while in possession of the firearms.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Irene Ugbo said in a statement on Monday in Calabar, that the suspect was apprehended by men of the Command on Sunday.

The police statement reads, “In the early hours of Sunday, 31st of August 2025, at about 0143hrs, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Ikom Unit, acting on credible intelligence, executed a search warrant in the premises of one Ewa Eben, aged 61 of Abu Emeh village, in Boki local government area of the state.

“The operation led to the recovery of one (1) English double-barrel gun, four (4) locally fabricated firearms, a machete, one hundred and twenty-eight (128) live cartridges.

“The suspect has confessed to both ownership and possession of the recovered prohibited items, he has been taken into custody as investigations continue”, the statement stated.

Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Rashid Afegbua commended the RRS team for fishing out the suspect.

The statement expressed the commitment of the Command to ensure that individuals who unlawfully hold arms in the state are brought to book.

Police further called on law abiding citizens to always provide useful information that will lead to arrest of criminal elements taking the laws into their hands.
