The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year -old man in connection with the death of his wife, 20, in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area, following an alleged domestic dispute.

The suspect, identified as Musbawu Amodu, was taken into custody on Sunday, July 12, 2026, after a complaint was lodged at the Agyaragu Police Division at about 12:30 p.m.

The police said through a statement by the State Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nanse, thatl the report alleged that Amodu assaulted his wife, leading to her death.

According to the police, officers from the division responded immediately, evacuated the victim to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for examination and preservation, and arrested the suspect at the scene.

The statement said during interrogation, Amodu allegedly confessed to the act.

Police said he told investiators he became angry after his wife refused to prepare food, and an argument that followed escalated into a physical altercation that resulted in her death. He reportedly expressed remorse for his actions.

The couple had been married for six years and have two children — a boy and a girl — who are now left without their mother.

Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for what he described as a “thorough, discreet, and expedited investigation.”

The commissioner assured the public that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Describing the incident as “tragic and avoidable,” CP Mohammed condemned all forms of domestic violence and urged couples and families to resolve disputes through dialogue, patience, and lawful means. “No misunderstanding is worth the loss of a human life,” he said.

The Command confirmed that the situation in Agyaragu and surrounding areas remains calm and is being monitored.
