Operatives of the Imo State Police Command’s tactical team have arrested a 23-year-old armed robbery suspect known as Igbonagwam Osinachi of Umuchoke Obazu Mbeiri Mbaitoli local government area.
His arrest was contained in a statement released in Owerri, the Imo State capital yesterday by the police public relations officer, Henry Okoye.
Okoye said the police who acted on the directive of the commissioner of police, Mr Mohammed Ahmed Barde, to continuously mop up illicit firearms and stem the tide of insecurity in the state, arrested Osinachi of Umuchoke Obazu Mbeiri Mbaitoli LGA.
He said the operatives from the command’s tactical team acted on credible intelligence.
The police spokesperson said, “In the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the crimes he has committed with his gang members at large, revealing their identity and criminal hideout situated at the littoral land of Nworie River Bank, Owerri.
“Based on his confessions, the inquisitive and determined operatives embarked on a thorough search of the hideout and recovered three locally made pistols and one live cartridge used in perpetrating their nefarious activities in the state.
“Concerted efforts are on top gear to arrest other members of his gang at large. The suspect(s) will be arraigned in court upon completion of a diligent investigation.
“The CP while commending the operative for a job well done, urged them to sustain the tempo in stemming down the tide of insecurity until all criminally minded elements are flushed out from the state.”
