Gombe State Police Command said its operatives in Zambuk Division in Yamaltu Deba local government area have arrested Mohammed Tukur, 55, of Sabon Gari Village, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl identified as Zulei Malam Dahiru.

Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said in a statement that the victim was rushed to the General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination. At the same time, the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

“Police visited the scene, rushed the victim to General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, and arrested the suspect. Investigation is ongoing. The command strongly condemns all forms of sexual violence and urges residents to report cases for swift action promptly,” the statement read in part.

Abdullahi added that in a separate case the same day, they arrested a 18-year-old Hassan Aminu Sadiq, a wanted serial armed robbery suspect, of Yelwa Quarters, Kwadon in Gombe metropolis.

He explained that operatives from the Kwadon Division arrested the suspect on August 9, following the receipt of credible intelligence. The suspect was found in possession of a roll of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and, during interrogation, confessed to involvement in two armed robbery cases already pending before the High Court, Gombe.
