The Delta State Police Command has intensified efforts to enforce compliance with vehicle registration regulations, resulting in the impoundment of 26 vehicles in Asaba for various registration-related violations.

The enforcement exercise, conducted on Friday, June 19, was led by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (lGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The operation targeted vehicles operating without registration number plates, as well as those displaying concealed, altered, defaced, obscured, or otherwise unreadable number plates within Asaba and its environs.

According to the command, the exercise forms part of ongoing measures aimed at enhancing public safety, strengthening crime prevention, and improving vehicle identification for security purposes across the state.

During the operation, 26 vehicles found to be in breach of existing vehicle registration laws were impounded.

The affected motorists were subsequently arraigned before a Mobile Court sitting in Asaba to face the relevant charges.

Speaking during the exercise, CP Oyeniyi urged vehicle owners to comply with all registration requirements and ensure that approved number plates are properly displayed on their vehicles.

He emphasised that the enforcement drive is designed to improve security and encourage adherence to the law.

The commissioner further warned that the operation would be sustained across Delta state.

He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to ensure strict enforcement of the directive across all Area Commands, Divisions, and tactical formations within the Command.

CP Oyeniyi also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-driven policing and its resolve to safeguard lives and property throughout the state.
