Police in Bauchi have arrested a 70-year-old man, Hamza Yahaya, over the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl in Magama Gumau, Toro local government area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying the incident was reported on Friday by the father of the girl.
According to the statement, the complainant reported the case alongside his 10-year-old biological alleging that Hamza, who resides in the same area, lured her to his hideout and allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
SP Nafiu said detectives attached to the Toro Divisional Headquarters immediately mobilised to the scene upon receiving the complaint and arrested the suspect.
According to the police spokesman, Hamza denied the allegation during interrogation but confessed to previously sexually assaulting the girl on three separate occasions at the same location.
He added that both the victim and the suspect were taken to the General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment.
The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
