Police Recover 12 Stolen Vehicles, Arrest 10 Suspects In Kano

Kano State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected members of an interstate motor vehicle theft syndicate and recovered 12 stolen vehicles in Kano and the neighbouring states.

The commissioner of police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this to journalists at the Tarauni Area Command in Kano.

Bakori said the breakthrough following sustained intelligence-led operations conducted by the command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in line with the policing vision of the inspector-general of police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

He said five suspects were initially arrested on September 7, 2026, in Adamawa State, where a white Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 was recovered.

He explained that discreet investigations and intelligence-led follow-up operations led to the recovery of 10 additional stolen vehicles from different locations across Kano and the neighbouring states.

The commissioner said another operation conducted on September 12, 2026, resulted in the arrest of five more suspects at Kwankwassiya City Quarters in Tarauni local government area. A stolen white Toyota Hilux, with registration number Katsina 03L-02KT was recovered during the operation.

Bakori said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in stealing vehicles in Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe and other neighbouring states, before concealing and transporting them across state borders for sale.

The recovered vehicles include Toyota Corolla, Pontiac Vibe, Mercedes-Benz GLK 350, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Sienna, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Camry and Hyundai Tucson.

He noted that eleven out of the twelve recovered vehicles were unregistered, making it difficult for the Police to trace some of their rightful owners.

The Commissioner therefore warned motorists against driving unregistered vehicles or using covered and concealed number plates, stressing that such practices could facilitate criminal activities and frustrate police investigations.

CP Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, inter-state collaboration and community partnership in the fight against vehicle theft and other forms of criminality.

He called on owners of the recovered vehicles to come forward with valid proof of ownership for identification and collection.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements of vehicles or persons to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
