Police in Niger State have confirmed an attack on some villages by bandits, recovered herds of cattle rustled and arrested 13 suspected Hoodlums for various offences.
LEADERSHIP reported that Bandits in recent weeks have attacked villagers in the Rijau and Mariga local government areas.
It was learnt that dozens of the villagers were killed and cattle rustled by the Bandits who were on motorcycles.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Wasiu Abiodun, confirming this yesterday, said “suspected bandits attacked Rijau community and its environs, inflicted injuries on some persons and carted some cattle away, while security teams were monitoring their movements”.
“The hoodlums were engaged through aerial bombardment around Yar-Tudu, Marafa, Awala villages of Kumbashi district area of Mariga LGA,” he added.
He said, ” The hoodlums were in disarray, and a large number of cattle were recovered. However, monitoring continues.”
Meanwhile, he said the police in Minna arrested 10 notorious thuggery and robbery suspects and recovered dangerous weapons and cannabis.
Similarly, he said based on a tip-off, Police operatives attached to Suleja Area Command arrested one Elijah Mathew of Sabon-Kaida, with two and a half bags of suspected cannabis and in the course of interrogation, Matthew confessed that he usually keeps such bags for one Moses Obi of Maje, Suleja, who was also arrested.
In another development, the PPRO said information was received at Gawu-Banbagida Division that Mohammed Umar of Bonu village, Lambata area, was sighted with suspected vandalised electric cables along Bonu-Lambata road. The Police operatives attached to the Division moved to the area, and the suspect was arrested with the same items packed in a bag.
