Primal Sporting FC emerged victorious in the inaugural Lagos Liga, overcoming Applebee FC in a dramatic final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

The intense final match ended 1-1 after regulation and extra time, with Primal Sporting clinching victory 9-8 in a penalty shootout to claim the N50 million grand prize.

Applebee FC took the lead with a well-executed goal by Raheem Ishola, capitalizing on a brilliant team play. Primal Sporting pushed for an equalizer, coming close with a powerful shot from Hassan Abba that was heroically saved by Applebee’s goalkeeper, deflecting the ball onto the crossbar. In additional time, Primal Sporting’s perseverance paid off as they scored the crucial equalizer, sending the match into extra time. With no further goals, the final was decided by penalties, where Primal Sporting held their nerve to secure the historic win.

The Lagos Liga, sponsored by BetKing, has been a monumental step in grassroots sports development, offering non-professional players a structured platform to showcase their talents. Launched on December 6, 2024, at Campos Stadium, the league began with 16 teams and delivered thrilling football action culminating in an unforgettable final.

Nengi Akinola, Head of Marketing at BetKing, highlighted the significance of the league and its life-changing grand prize, stating: The Lagos Liga has set a new benchmark in grassroots football by offering an unprecedented N50 million grand prize. This initiative underscores BetKing’s commitment to fostering local talent and driving community engagement through the unifying power of football. The reward is not just about celebrating victory; it represents our dedication to creating meaningful opportunities for non-professional players to thrive and achieve their dreams.

At BetKing, we are proud to champion initiatives that empower individuals and redefine the landscape of grassroots sports in Nigeria.” She added.

Fan engagement was elevated with activities such as free bets for active customers, interactive activities like “Spin to Win,” and live demonstrations of Aviator. The BetKing Jingle Bets campaign added a festive layer to the league’s atmosphere, resonating strongly with audiences.

As the Lagos Liga concludes, BetKing reaffirms its commitment to driving the growth of Nigerian football through talent development, community support, and fostering a deep passion for the game.
