Prince George has officially become a teenager, with the Royal Family celebrating his 13th birthday by sharing a new portrait of the future king.
To mark the occasion on Wednesday, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Kate Middleton, posted a new photo of their eldest son on Instagram alongside the message: “Happy 13th Birthday, George! 🎉”
King Charles III and Queen Camilla also joined the celebrations, reposting the portrait on their Instagram Story with a birthday cake emoji and the message, “Happy 13th birthday to Prince George!”
George, who was born in July 2013, is the eldest of William and Kate’s three children. He is the older brother to Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
The young royal is expected to begin his studies at Eton College in September, following in the footsteps of his father, who attended the prestigious boarding school between 1995 and 2000.
However, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield believes George’s experience will be very different from William’s because of today’s digital age.
According to her, social media, smartphones and online exposure present new security challenges, although she expects William and Kate to give their son enough independence to enjoy school life while remaining well protected.
