Put Party 1st, Ambitions 2nd,” Saraki Tells PDP Ahead Convention

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to prioritize the party’s collective goals over individual ambitions as it approaches its upcoming convention.

In an interview with LEADERSHIP on Thursday, Saraki acknowledged concerns that the convention could intensify internal tensions but emphasized that committed members must focus on the bigger objective: presenting credible candidates for the 2027 elections.

“Personal interests and ambitions can create friction, but sacrifice is essential in service of the party. If achieving the party’s goals requires giving up a personal position or putting aside individual ambitions, then that is what must be done. Leadership opportunities will come again, but history will not forgive us if PDP is prevented from appearing on the ballot,”Saraki said.

He also highlighted the urgency imposed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), warning that time constraints leave little room for prolonged litigation or political maneuvering.

“Winning a personal battle is meaningless if it costs us the war. Our ultimate priority is to ensure PDP is ready and on the ballot in 2027,” Saraki stressed.

The remarks signal a strong push for reconciliation and collective strategy among PDP leaders, as the party seeks unity and cohesion in the run-up to its convention and the 2027 electoral cycle.
