Real Madrid Defender Mendy Undergoes Surgery After Injury Setback

Real Madrid CF defender Ferland Mendy has undergone surgery on a recurring thigh injury, dealing another major setback to the French international’s difficult season.

According to medical sources in France, the operation was successfully performed in Lyon on Monday, with the player expected to spend between 3 and 4 months on the sidelines during his recovery.

There had initially been fears that the injury could threaten Mendy’s career after the problem resurfaced during a Spanish La Liga fixture on May 3. Fortunately for both the player and the club, the surgery appears to have gone well, significantly reducing concerns about a prolonged absence.

The 30-year-old has endured a frustrating campaign plagued by fitness issues, with this latest setback representing his fifth injury of the season. His repeated struggles have limited his availability and disrupted his rhythm at a crucial stage of Real Madrid’s campaign.

Mendy, who previously played for Olympique Lyonnais and Le Havre AC, began his youth career at Paris Saint-Germain’s academy from 2004 to 2012 before rising through the ranks of French football.

Since joining Real Madrid in 2019, he has established himself as one of the club’s most reliable defensive options when fully fit, contributing to multiple domestic and European successes.

Internationally, Mendy earned 10 caps for the France national football team between 2018 and 2024, although injuries have repeatedly interrupted his progress at the international level as well.
