Rep Canvasses Decentralisation Of Nigeria’s Security System

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ekiti North federal constituency 1, Hon. Akin Rotimi,  has advocated the decentralization of the country’s security system.

Rotimi, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, urged President Bola Tinubu to engage in human capital development as part of measures to ease effects of fuel subsidy removal on the people and to set Nigerians on progressive cadre

Rotimi spoke in Ikole Ekiti at the weekend after presenting palliatives to about 5,000 of his constituents.

He said 3,000 bags of rice were given to his constituents in bott Ikole and Oye Ekiti among other food stuffs in a bid to improve food security and a means of sharing love during the yuletide season.

“In addition to that, we are relatively distributing about N20 million.  Food security and agriculture Production is part of the agenda of the 10th assembly.”

Lamenting the withdrawal of  commercial bank operations in one of his constituencies, Ikole Ekiti, the federal lawmaker who attributed this to insecurity and incessant bank robberies in the axis assured that concerted efforts are on to bring normalcy back to the area and financial institutions return with full  bank operations.

The lawmaker who noted that all security agencies and government are doing their best to tackle insecurity in the country said, “I being an advocate of true federalism , I believe that our security architecture really need to be  decentralized  in the spirit of solidarity  with those at the grassroots  being the lead .

“We will continue to advocate through constitutional amendment for the role of state police  and also more dynamic approaches  to our security architecture  that responds to the peculiarity of our areas. But the insecurity rate in the country generally has reduced because of ongoing efforts and we will continue to try to achieve what we want to achieve .”
