Worried over the level of dilapidation of roads in various parts of his constituency due to heavy flooding, the member representing Ogbaru federal constituency in Anambra State, Hon. Afam Ogene has commissioned work to be carried out in selected roads that have become impassable.
Ogbaru is a riverine area on the bank of the River Niger.
Under the first phase of the work, Hon. Ogene who is chairman of the House Representatives committee on renewable energy and leader of the Labour Party, deployed N5 million for the road maintenance.
Some people of the area who spoke to LEADERSHIP said Ogene embarked on the maintenance works following an outcry by some residents that they were experiencing nightmare moving around due to dilapidation of the roads caused by heavy flooding.
Some of the residents who spoke included Hon Chinedu Uwollo of Ossomala community and supervisor of the road maintenance project. Others were a former president-general of Odekpe community, Mr. Vincent Oke, Ms Chinelo Isamala and Mr. Adimani Nwabueze.
They eulogised Hon. Ogene for the maintenance work, describing him as not just a leader who is hurt by what hurts his fellow human-beings but a “great lover of Ogbahu and his Ogbahu people”.
