Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Muhammad, has expressed concern over the declining level of discipline, ethical conduct and professionalism in the organisation.

He therefore vowed to collaborate with other key stakeholders to address the challenge before it becomes too late.

Shehu spoke at the opening session of a roundtable discussion among senior officers of the corps in Jigawa State. The meeting was convened to brainstorm and proffer solutions to the deteriorating situation.

The corps marshal, represented by ACM Procurement, A.T. Muhammad, stated that upholding professionalism, ethical conduct and discipline is necessary to safeguard the institution’s reputation and maintain public confidence.

He noted that the corps had recently observed an increase in indiscipline and unprofessional conduct among personnel, particularly during field operations, adding that the development had put the institution’s reputation at stake.

“Enforcing discipline, professionalism and morality among staff is not a punishment, but one of the cardinal principles governing the operations of any uniformed personnel.

“I urge the participants of this roundtable meeting to use their vast experience to offer workable solutions to this challenge,” Shehu said.

Also, the Jigawa State sector commander of the FRSC, Mr Umar Ma’as’ud Matazu, said the meeting underscored the corps’ commitment to promoting professionalism and safety on Nigerian roads.

“We are working to save human lives and property, and to achieve our goals, we must reposition ourselves and uphold dedication, professionalism and excellent service. This meeting is key and timely in helping us deliver on our mandate,” Matazu said.
