The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has urged Nigerians to prioritise their safety and avoid confrontations with criminals during attacks, emphasising that life preservation should come before any attempt to resist or fight back.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, gave the advice on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s current affairs programme, ‘Politics Today’.
Hundeyin cautioned that when faced with armed or violent criminals, individuals should remain calm and cooperate rather than struggle, as the police were better equipped to pursue and apprehend offenders.
“In the unfortunate event that you find yourself among criminals, do not struggle, do not fight, just stay calm and save your life first,” Hundeyin said. “We can always go after these criminals to have them arrested.”
The police spokesperson also revealed that the Force has recorded significant progress in combating criminal syndicates, including the notorious ‘One-Chance’ gangs operating in parts of Abuja.
According to him, recent arrests have been made in connection with the group’s activities, including suspects allegedly responsible for the killing of a lawyer in the Federal Capital Territory.
“We’ve achieved a lot in the area of arrests of this One-Chance syndicate,” Hundeyin stated. “Just recently, a few days ago, we arrested the gang behind the murder of that lawyer, and the phone has been recovered.”
The ‘One-Chance’ gangs, known for luring unsuspecting passengers into supposedly commercial vehicles before robbing or attacking them, have been a persistent security concern in Abuja and other major cities.
Hundeyin reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to sustaining ongoing operations against such criminal groups while urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
