Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidates will be on the ballot for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for in various constituencies in 12 states across Nigeria.

This followed a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja in favour of the party in a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The SDP’s national publicity secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, released a statement to newsmen yesterday in Abuja stating that the court, in its ruling, ordered INEC to accept the SDP candidates for the bye-elections, publish their names, and ensure they appear on the election materials.

The court decision came after the SDP had argued that its candidates were wrongfully excluded from the list published by INEC.

Aiyenigba said, “Despite the initial setback caused by our candidates’ non-listing, SDP has been actively campaigning since the party primaries, and our candidates are now ready for victory at the polls on Saturday. The party is confident that with the court’s intervention, our candidates will have a fair chance to compete in the bye-elections.”

Also, the SDP candidates urged their supporters to come out in large numbers on election day and vote for them to ensure their victory and representation in the various constituencies. “The party remains optimistic about its prospects in the upcoming bye-elections and is looking forward to a successful outcome,” they stated.
