Following its release in theatres last week, The Chosen Season 5: The Last Supper Part 2 grossed $6.7 million at the domestic box office.
Although it failed to equate Part 1’s success which raked in $11.8 million via ticket sales its first weekend post March 28, it was the third highest performing film at the cinemas last weekend, losing to ‘A Working Man’ which earned over $7.2 million in ticket sales, and ‘A Minecraft Movie’ with a $157 million at the box office, making it the biggest video game movie opening ever.
Fans can look forward this weekend April 11, for the theatrical release of The Chosen: Last Supper Part 3.
The data comes just after series creator, Dallas Jenkins appreciation of fans at The Last Supper Part 1’s success, which they’d originally forecasted to record $10 million in ticket sales.
“Going into the weekend, I tried to practice my usual, ‘no expectation, no projections, we’ll see what God (and the fans) do.’ But I can’t help having a hope of what might happen.
“I was going to be really happy with $10m (we did $7.4m last year). We are still tallying the final numbers, but we estimate that around a million of you were in theatres showing your support, leading to around $11.7m in box office.
“If you’re one of the faces we saw in theatres this weekend: thank you. Your support sends a huge message to media and makes it easier for storytellers like us to share impactful stories. It also generates more interest and eyeballs. And more important, I just hope the episodes are impacting you.”
Per its format, The Chosen releases each season in three parts at the theatres.
This year The Last Supper Season 5: Part 1 (episodes 1 and 2), opened March 28, 2025. Part 2, (episodes 3 to 5) opens today April 4, 2025, while Part 3 (episodes 6 to 8) releases April 11.
By April 13 Palm Sunday, and Easter weekend, the entire season’s series will be available in cinema/theatres for viewing.
