The Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his administration’s continued commitment to partnering with the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to safeguard lives and property in the state.

Governor Buni gave the assurance when he received the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, Northeast Zone, DIG Zakariya Fera, at his office in Damaturu.

Represented by the acting secretary to the state government, Dr Mohammed Goje, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Police Force for their continued sacrifice, dedication and patriotism in safeguarding the unity, peace and stability of the nation.

“We remain deeply grateful to the officers and men who continue to serve the nation in the collective interest and unity of our great country. Security remains the foundation upon which sustainable development is built,” he said.

The governor emphasised that his administration remained committed to the welfare of security personnel and their families, recognising their sacrifices as indispensable to the peace and stability enjoyed by the community today.

According to him, the peace and stability experienced across Yobe state today are a testament to the resilience, professionalism, and collaborative efforts of the security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and citizens.

“While significant progress has been recorded, we remain mindful that security challenges continue to evolve, requiring sustained vigilance, intelligence-led operations and stronger inter-agency cooperation,” he added.

While acknowledging the remarkable progress made in restoring peace and stability, Governor Buni said the people of Yobe state respectfully seek the continued partnership and support of the police high command in strengthening the state security architecture through intelligence-driven operations, enhanced operational capabilities, strategic deployment of additional personnel, and expanded community policing initiatives to sustain the prevailing peace and create an enabling environment for socioeconomic development.

He therefore appreciated the support of the federal government under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu for the ongoing efforts to consolidate peace, enhance security, and accelerate socioeconomic recovery, noting that Yobe state remains committed to supporting the collective pursuit of a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.

Earlier, speaking, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, Northeast Zone, DIG Zakariya Fera, said they embarked on this journey to see how police officers are working in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, noting that the visit is operational.

He said the visit aimed to foster deeper collaboration between the police and the State government, and he also thanked the State government for all it has been doing for the police in the state.

DIG Zakariya Fera explained that they have sensitised their stakeholders on the importance of protecting sensitive information and sharing it with the police, which will help combat crime in Yobe.

“We have come here to equally sensitise our stakeholders here today, for police to protect them effectively, they have a role to play because the enemies of society live within the society. And if the stakeholders don’t give police information, there is no way the police will make a headway in fighting crimes,” he noted.

The DIG, however, assured people of Yobe state that they will no longer suffer the pains of criminality if what they have put in place is brought to fruition and urged the stakeholders to play a role in assisting the police to combat crime in Yobe state.
