The senator representing Plateau Central, Diket Plang (APC) yesterday said he was saddened by the sustained killings in Mangu and Bokkos areas and other parts of the state, urging all parties to eschew violence, forget their differences and embrace dialogue for lasting peace.

Plang who addressed newsmen in Jos at the weekend also urged them to forgive one another and give peace a chance.

The lawmaker said though the attacks were barbaric and unprovoked aggression against innocent people, there was need to dialogue and end the bloodletting.

He expressed concern that in spite of all entreaties and efforts by stakeholders to stop the attacks in parts of Bokkos and Mangu local governments, the senseless killings had continued.

“It is inhuman and barbaric, considering the efforts of the government, security forces, traditional institutions, and other critical stakeholders.

“The constant and unrelenting attacks on the people have become unbearable and have subjected the victims to untold hardship, thus making them refugees in their state.

“The main source of livelihood for our people, which is farming, is disrupted.

“These renewed killings may scare our people, especially farmers, away from their farms and could turn out to be a recipe for hunger.

“We have injured ourselves, as a people but we must forgive and live together once again as a people,” he added.

Plang expressed hope that with the appointment of the new service chiefs, the security challenges would be addressed.

The lawmaker expressed confidence in the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government to address the security and other challenges bedeviling the country.

Gombe Governor Extends Science & Tech Varsity’s Management Tenure By 6 Months

Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the extension of tenure of the management of Gombe State University of Science and Technology, Kumo by six months with effect from July 1,  2023.

Secretary to the state government, Prof Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi,  who conveyed the governor’s approval, said the decision followed the expiration of their tenure at the end of June, as well as the need to facilitate smooth take over of the institution by the Lincoln University College Malaysia.

Recall that Gombe State government  had signed a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with the Lincoln University College of Malaysia to prop up academic activities at the Gombe State University of Science and Technology Kumo and activate the institution to a centre of academic excellence.

The MoU is the treaty that will bring to life the established and hitherto abandoned University, with a view to making it a world class institution that would favourably compete in the comity of international universities.
