Former deputy governor of Edo State, Mr. Philip Shaibu’s security post has been removed by some persons believed to be agents of the state government.
Shaibu was impeached last Monday by the state House of Assembly following the recommendations of a seven-man panel of investigation set up by the state chief judge, Justice Okungbowa to probe Shaibu over alleged misconduct.
As a deputy governor, Shaibu erected a make-shift security post close to his private residence within the Government Reserved Area (GRA).
The security post which shared the same fence with the Golf Course served as a temporary shelter or first port of call for his security details before and after close of work.
It was gathered that the demolition squad was made up of members of the Edo State Network (ESSN), members of the state government-owned Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) and the conventional police.
Reacting to the demolition, a senior member of one of the operatives that carried out the demolition yesterday, said the security post was removedsince the former deputy governor is now a private citizen and may have lost the privilege of having such a post.
However, the commissioner for roads and bridges, Eta Uzamere, whose ministry is being fingered in the demolition, said it had nothing to do with his ministry.
He said, “I have seen some online reports linking my ministry with the demolition of the former deputy governor’s security post and I can tell you it had nothing to do with my ministry.”
