Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly called Ayra Starr, has confirmed that she has relocated to New York City in the United States.

In an interview on Hot 93.7FM’s Buck N Regg, the 23-year-old star revealed that she officially moved to the US less than two months ago, although she has always felt connected to the city.

“I do live in New York. I moved in officially less than two months ago. I am always in New York regardless,” she said.

Ayra explained that New York reminds her of Lagos, noting the strong Nigerian and African diaspora presence in the city.

“New York reminds me so much of Lagos. There are a lot of Nigerians. There is a huge Africans in diaspora here. So it feels like home,” she said.

She added that she initially had doubts about the move until a moment on stage convinced her the city was right for her.

“I was skeptical about moving to New York. I remember just being on stage and feeling like I might actually move here. It feels like a moment of sunder. I was like, I really like it here. I love it. I know my priorities. I know why I am here. And I am here for a good time.”
