Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the immediate expansion and rehabilitation of key access roads within the Singer Market axis, approving a N3 billion road intervention aimed at easing movement, reducing flooding, and decongesting the commercial environment.
The governor gave the directive recently during a condolence visit to Singer Market, where he sympathised with traders whose shops were destroyed by a devastating fire outbreak.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the governor expressed deep concern over the losses recorded by the affected traders and assured them of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and recovery.
As part of immediate relief measures, the governor announced the donation of N100 million to victims of the fire disaster.
He was received during the visit by the Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; a market elder, Alhaji Sabi’u Bako; and the owner of the affected plaza, Alhaji Munzali Mazaf.
According to the statement, the N3 billion road expansion and rehabilitation project will cover Bello Road, Ado Bayero Road, Kandoki, Yolawa, and Kwangiri roads, with the intervention designed to enhance commercial activities and improve access to major market areas across the metropolis.
The governor also promised to solarise the market as part of broader efforts to modernise Kano markets in line with his administration’s urban renewal and economic development agenda.
He further ordered contractors handling the projects to mobilise to site and commence work within 10 days.
The market leadership and elders commended the governor for the visit and described the intervention as timely and compassionate, noting that the relief support and infrastructure upgrade would help traders recover from the tragedy and improve the business environment.
They also praised the state government for its commitment to supporting traders and improving infrastructure within the Kantin Kwari Market axis.
