In strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, on the enforcement of traffic regulations, the Sokoto State Police Command has impounded 32 vehicles during a coordinated operation targeting vehicles without number plates, covered number plates, and other related traffic offences across the state capital.

To ensure immediate legal enforcement and serve as a deterrent to violators, the command simultaneously activated a mobile court presided over by Chief Magistrate Isah Idris Marafa.

The court promptly prosecuted several offenders and imposed fines and other penalties in accordance with relevant legal provisions.

Speaking to journalists after the court session, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, who personally supervised the operation, said the IGP’s directive was aimed at enhancing national security, reducing vehicular crimes, and restoring order on Nigerian roads.

“Vehicles without proper identification, including those with covered or defaced number plates, have increasingly been used by criminal elements. This enforcement is non-negotiable,” CP Shaffa stated.

He urged residents of the Caliphate to remain law-abiding and cooperate with the police in the ongoing exercise.

“Let no one mistake our resolve. This is about the safety and security of all citizens,” he added.

The commissioner reaffirmed that the enforcement exercise would continue across all local government areas of the state until full compliance is achieved.

He also advised vehicle owners who have yet to register their vehicles properly or renew their number plates to do so without delay to avoid sanctions.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the mobile court will sit regularly as part of the command’s sustained strategy to enforce traffic regulations and promote public safety.
