A group, The Sokoto Youth Emancipation Front (SYEF) has congratulated Governor Ahmed Aliyu on receiving the 2024 Urban and Housing-Friendly Governor of the Year Award.
The award presented at a grand ceremony in Abuja, celebrates the Governor’s exceptional contributions to urban planning, road infrastructure, and housing development in Sokoto State.
In a statement by leader of the group, Hamisu Sani, the SYEF commended Governor Aliyu’s dedication to transforming Sokoto’s urban and housing landscape, describing the award as a testament to his visionary leadership and commitment to sustainable development.
Governor Aliyu emerged victorious among three nominees for the prestigious award due to his remarkable strides in improving urban infrastructure and addressing housing challenges.
His administration has constructed and commissioned over 30 township roads, with an additional 40 road projects currently ongoing in metropolitan areas across the state.
“These roads have improved connectivity, boosted economic activities, and enhanced the overall quality of life for Sokoto residents,” Sani stated.
“Governor Aliyu’s leadership reflects the values of progress and accountability that we, as a youth-driven organisation, deeply admire,” he noted.
“The Governor’s efforts to address housing deficits have also been widely lauded. His administration is constructing 1,000 housing units in Gidan Salanke and Wajake, while also purchasing 137 federal government-built houses in Kwannawa to provide affordable housing for Sokoto residents.
“These housing projects are not just about buildings; they represent hope for families who have long struggled with accommodation challenges,” Hamisu said.
Governor Aliyu’s administration has also reformed the issuance of certificates of occupancy (C of O), making the process more efficient and transparent. This initiative has enhanced property ownership for individuals and businesses, attracting investments into Sokoto State’s real estate sector.
Barrister Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho, Sokoto State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, highlighted these reforms during the award presentation, describing them as transformative milestones under the Governor’s leadership.
Hamisu emphasised that the 2024 Urban and Housing-Friendly Governor of the Year Award is a fitting acknowledgment of Governor Aliyu’s impactful governance. “This award is a celebration of Governor Aliyu’s unwavering commitment to Sokoto State. It reflects his dedication to creating a better future for all residents,” Sani stated.
The SYEF leader added that the Governor’s achievements serve as an inspiration to Sokoto’s youth, demonstrating that visionary leadership can drive sustainable development.
Sani called on the people of Sokoto to rally behind Governor Aliyu’s administration to ensure the continued success of his transformative projects. “The youth of Sokoto stand firmly behind Governor Aliyu. Together, we can achieve even greater milestones for our state,” he said.
Sani maintains that celebrating Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s recognition as the 2024 Urban and Housing-Friendly Governor of the Year is what every progressive minded Sokoto indigene should relish. This award is a well-deserved acknowledgment of the Governor’s visionary leadership, transformative achievements, and dedication to improving the lives of Sokoto residents.
Under Governor Aliyu’s administration, Sokoto State continues to shine as a beacon of progress, offering hope and inspiration to its people, especially the youth.
The SYEF reaffirmed its support for the Governor’s initiatives and called on all stakeholders to join hands in sustaining the development momentum in Sokoto State.
