A political pressure group Igbo Union aka Nzuko Ndigbo is set to honour the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu for his tireless efforts in passing into law a bill that gave birth to South East Development Commission (SEDC).
Speaking yesterday in Abuja, its president Prince Elias Odoemena, said that the Bende High Chief in Abia State Hon Ben Kalu achieved this because of his undying love for southeast, and the drive to see it develop to its peak.
Prince Odoemena said the Igbo people have gathered and felt that it would be good to honour Kalu and also tell him what his kinsmen, the Igbos, want more from him.
Odoemena recalled that the former Ohanaeze president, late Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu visited Benjamin Kalu and encouraged him on the South East Development Commission and its importance to the people of the zone.
The group president disclosed that when the SEDC Bill was eventually passed, the most prominent Ohanaeze Ndigbo businessmen were hosted by Sir Patrick Chidolue in his house and the late Engr Iwuanyanwu and others used the opportunity to thank Hon.Benjamin Kalu for this achievement.
Prince Odoemena also said that the only currency used in paying back love is love, and therefore used the opportunity to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the bill that created SEDC, and equally urge him to send to the National Assembly, a supplementary budget that will enable the SEDC to start functioning immediately.
