At the forefront of these discussions are agitation for the creation of Kainji State out of Niger/Kebbi state and Gobir state, comprising of eight local governments from the present Sokoto State.

In his submission, the national president of Zuru Emirate Development Society, Air Vice Marshall Salau Salihu Bala, said the agitation for Kainji State dated back to decades, and prayed for its actualisation in this dispensation.

The chairman of the Gobir Development Association, Professor Muazu Shamaki, who made a case for creating Gobir State noted that their agitation was long overdue, citing its historical significance and economic viability.

Shamaki explained that the eight local governments that make up Gobir Kingdom were sufficient to form a state, drawing parallels with other old kingdoms like Kano, Kebbi, Oyo and Zamfara.
