Super Eagles Captain, Wilfred Ndidi, Sets To Bid Farewell To Father In Delta

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi is preparing for the solemn task of burying his father, Mr. Sunday Ndidi, today, Friday, February 13, 2026, in the Delta State community of Umunede.

Ahead of the funeral rites, a high-level delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) met with the grieving midfielder in Asaba on Thursday to offer their heartfelt condolences and support.

The NFF delegation, led by General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, presented a formal letter of condolence to Ndidi, expressing the profound grief and sadness felt by the entire Nigerian football family over the tragic passing of Mr. Sunday Ndidi. Dr. Sanusi conveyed the nation’s deepest sympathies, assuring the Leicester City star of their unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time.

Accompanying Dr. Sanusi were several prominent figures within Nigerian football, including NFF Executive Committee Member, Rt. Hon. Nse Essien; Chairman of the Delta State Football Association, Hon. Godwin Adode; NFF’s Director of Media & Communications, Dr. Ademola Olajire; and various Board Members of the Delta State Football Association. Their collective presence underscored the significance of the loss and the strong bond within the football fraternity.

The funeral, scheduled to take place in Umunede, will see family, friends, and community members gather to pay their final respects to Mr. Sunday Ndidi. As Wilfred Ndidi navigates this personal tragedy, the thoughts and prayers of football fans across Nigeria and beyond are with him and his family. The football community stands in solidarity with their captain as he prepares to bid a final farewell to his father.
