The Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, CP Morkwap Sebastian Dongshal, has directed officers of the command to map out crime prone areas, as part of efforts to flush out criminal activities in the state.

CP Dongshal, who gave the directive during maiden conference with senior officers of the command in Jalingo, was optimistic that the directive would strengthen security operations.

According to the CP, the move was aimed at addressing security threats, as any negligence of duty would not be tolerated under his leadership.

The commissioner, who stressed the need for a proactive, intelligence-led policing strategy, urged the officers to deepen engagement with communities through public sensitisation on safety and crime prevention.

He emphasised that, effective policing depends largely on credible information from the public, and called on the officers to build trust and foster mutual respect with residents.

“Security is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration, not hostility,” he said.

Dongshal further ordered sustained patrols and increased police visibility across the state to deter criminal activities as well as to ensure prompt reporting of incidents in their areas.

He further called for stronger inter-agency collaboration through intelligence sharing and to joint operations.

He, therefore, charged the newly appointed Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to operate professionally, be responsive and to uphold the tenant of human rights in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police.

The commissioner warned the personnel against acts of extortion, human rights abuses and incivility to members of the public, noting that such conduct would not be condoned.
