Tarkowski’s 91st-Minute Strike Earns Everton Draw At Bournemouth

Everton captain James Tarkowski scored a dramatic 91st-minute equalizer to salvage a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, denying new Cherries manager Marco Rose a victory in his first home match in charge.

Bournemouth appeared set for all three points after Alex Scott broke the deadlock in the 41st minute. The midfielder converted from the edge of the box with a deflected finish following excellent work from Evanilson, who had chased down a long ball and beaten Tarkowski before picking out Scott.

Everton had created the better openings in an energetic first half, with Jarrad Branthwaite heading close in the 10th minute and Thierno Barry failing to turn in a rebound after Tyrique George’s initial effort was saved by Djordje Petrovic. Barry also hit the side-netting just before the break and was denied by Petrovic from close range early in the second half.

David Moyes’ side pushed for an equalizer and had a penalty appeal waved away by referee Chris Kavanagh when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall went down under contact from James Hill inside the box.

The Toffees finally broke through deep in stoppage time when Marcus Tavernier and Ryan Christie both failed to clear Hayden Hackney’s corner, leaving the ball to drop for Tarkowski, who thumped home from close range to earn a share of the points.
