Tesla has commenced production of its highly anticipated autonomous robotaxi, the Cybercab, Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk announced on Friday.

Musk disclosed this in a post on X, where he shared a promotional video with the caption, “Cybercab has started production.”

The 38-second-long clip, filmed largely from inside the driverless vehicle, captures the Cybercab rolling off the production line and seamlessly transitioning onto public roads, offering a glimpse into Tesla’s vision for fully autonomous urban mobility.

In a separate post, Musk shared another short video showing a fleet of gold-coloured Cybercabs moving in coordinated formation along a roadway, further highlighting the vehicle’s rollout.

The announcement comes a day after Tesla reported stronger-than-expected first-quarter earnings, posting profits of $477 million.

Earlier in the week, the company said it remained on course to begin mass production of both the Cybercab and the Tesla Semi later this year.

The Cybercab, designed as a fully autonomous robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals, was first unveiled in 2024, with Musk projecting a potential market debut by 2027.

Tesla had already taken initial steps toward deployment, launching a limited robotaxi service for invitation-only users in Austin, Texas, in June last year.

In February, the company also released an image showing employees gathered around the first Cybercab to roll off the production line at its Texas facility, signalling early manufacturing progress.
