President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated the use of the National Identity Number (NIN) Authentication Service across all federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), a major move to strengthen Nigeria’s digital governance framework.

The directive, which was announced alongside the official launch of the NIN Authentication (NINAuth) platform by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), marks a significant step toward achieving a harmonised and secure identity verification system for public service delivery.
NIMC said the NINAuth service is a robust, real-time authentication system designed to verify the identities of citizens and legal residents across key sectors.

It is now the exclusive platform authorised for all NIN-based verification and authentication processes within the federal government structure.

The NINAuth suite includes web, API, and mobile app-based services that provide enhanced security by safeguarding personal data from unauthorised access; ensure user control by allowing individuals to manage how their data is shared, and enhance seamless access through single sign-on integration for multiple public services.

Under the directive, MDAs must integrate the NINAuth platform into their operations for services such as SIM registration and replacement, passport and immigration processing, tax filings, driver’s licence renewals, and the implementation of government intervention programmes.

Head of corporate communications at NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, told LEADERSHIP that the innovation was an affirmation of NIMC’s commitment to advancing a secure, efficient, and citizen-focused digital identity system.
