The federal government has said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to strengthening security across the country while driving national development through ongoing economic and governance reforms.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this on Saturday in Abuja during an appearance on Radio Link, a Radio Nigeria public affairs programme marking the 27th anniversary of Nigeria’s uninterrupted democratic governance and the third year of the Tinubu administration.

Idris said the government is fully aware of prevailing security challenges in some parts of the country but insisted that decisive steps are being taken to address them and protect citizens.

“The Tinubu administration, while acknowledging the security challenges in parts of the country, is nevertheless relentlessly applying decisive measures to neutralize threats, restore peace, and create a secure environment where citizens can live, work and prosper,” the minister said.

He added that safeguarding lives and livelihoods remains a central focus of the administration, alongside efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and improve governance outcomes.

According to him, the administration’s broader goal is to ensure that democratic dividends are felt by Nigerians through improved security, economic stability, and service delivery.

On the economy, Idris expressed optimism that ongoing reforms being implemented by the government were beginning to yield positive results, noting that key economic indicators were showing signs of recovery and stability.

He said the reforms were designed to lay the foundation for sustainable growth and long-term national prosperity.

The minister also described June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, saying it symbolises the nation’s resilience and collective aspiration for accountable governance.

“June 12 is a powerful testament to Nigeria’s democratic resilience, courage and collective aspiration for accountable governance,” he said.

Idris urged Nigerians to continue supporting the administration’s reform agenda, while also upholding values of unity, patriotism, and transparency.

During the programme, he noted that the government remains open to public engagement, adding that citizens’ feedback is vital in shaping policies and strengthening democratic accountability.
