Wife of President Bola Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a Digital Learning Centre (DLC) at Ujabhole Grammar School, Irrua, in Esan Central local government area of Edo State, as part of efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote digital inclusion across Nigeria.
The commissioning ceremony on Thursday was conducted in a hybrid format, with Senator Tinubu joining virtually. The Digital Learning Centre is a project of the first lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Speaking virtually, the director-general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, stated that the administration has established 296 digital learning centres in Nigeria, with plans to add 148 more this year, aiming for 592 centres by 2027.
The coordinator Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani, described the Digital Learning Centre as a testament to the renewed hope initiative and Senator Monday Okpebholo’s dedication to revolutionising education in Edo State. “We are proud to be a part of this journey through technology and bridging the digital divide in communities.”
Mrs Anani noted that it is pertinent to equip students with cutting-edge technology, e-learning resources, and interactive tools, to enhance their skills and enable them compete and excel in the 21st-century knowledge economy.
The principal of Ujabhole Grammar School, Mr. Asemote Wisdom, expressed appreciation to the Nation’s First Lady and partners for the initiative, stating that it will enhance the technological skills of teachers and students.
Some of the students, Ohue Gift, Ekujuvwevwo Reality, and Omoriawo Destiny, appreciated the Nation’s First Lady for the initiative, which is expected to boost creativity, entrepreneurship, and national development.
