The Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA) in Taraba State has commended Governors Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State for their joint peace mission to crisis-affected communities in Southern Taraba.

The president-general of the association, Chief James Chihi Bakah, in a press statement he issued in Jalingo, described the visit as a major step toward restoring security and stability in the areas.

He said the visit of the two governors to Wukari, Abako and Chanchanji, came at a critical time when communities in the region had faced prolonged security challenges.

He noted that, the crisis has led to the loss of many innocent lives, displacement of families, disruption of farming activities and worsening humanitarian conditions for the residents of the area.

Bakah, in the statement said the Tiv people in Taraba viewed the joint visit not merely as a ceremonial gesture but as a demonstration of responsible leadership, compassion and cooperation between neighbouring states to address the security situation affecting border communities.

According to him, Governor Kefas showed courage and empathy by personally visiting the affected areas, an action he said reassured displaced families of government’s commitment to protecting lives, restoring peace and rebuilding public confidence.

He also commended Governor Alia for joining the peace mission, noting that his participation underscores the shared responsibility of neighbouring states in tackling security threats affecting their people.

“The presence of the Benue governor sent a strong message that peace, unity and mutual coexistence remain the only sustainable path for our communities,” Bakah stated.

The TCSA leader further expressed appreciation for the assurances given during the visit regarding strengthened security deployment in the affected communities to enable displaced persons return safely to their homes and farms.

He added that the provision of relief materials and humanitarian support to victims of the crisis has rekindled hope among many families who have endured months of hardship.

Bakah also commended the Aku Uka of Wukari and chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs, and the Benue State Council of Chiefs for their peacebuilding efforts and leadership in promoting dialogue and inclusiveness among communities, as well as their consistent advocacy for peace, unity and respect for constituted authorities.

Bakah noted that the collaboration among the political leaders, traditional rulers and religious figures represents a significant turning point in the search for lasting peace in Southern Taraba State.

He called on all communities in the region to embrace dialogue and support ongoing government efforts to restore security, and warned that violence and reprisals would only deepen suffering and prolong the crisis.

He also urged security agencies to sustain the momentum generated by the visit by ensuring effective protection of lives and property in all affected communities.

“The Tiv people of Taraba State remain committed to peaceful coexistence. Our shared history, culture and economic ties demand dialogue, understanding and cooperation rather than conflict,” Bakah added.
