Nigerians have been urged to attach importance to the development of their communities.
A traditional ruler, the Onigbemo of Igbemo Ekiti, Oba Adewumi Daramola, who gave the advice, said it will fast-track the development and transformation of local communities.

Oba Daramola explained that the onus is on sons and daughters of every community to join hands with their community leaders and associations to uplift their home town.

He spoke in the town while conferring the chieftaincy titles of Uyi-Owa and Erelu Uyi-Owa of the city on a son of the soil and a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu and his wife over the weekend.

The monarch, who stated that the government can’t meet every community’s need, said, “Indigenes, both home and abroad, are to do their best to develop their communities by working with the leaders there to meet their needs. This is part of what to do to ensure development.”

The monarch, who noted that Hon. Jamiu had contributed immensely to the town’s development, said, “Many good things have come to our community since he was elected lawmaker. God has been using him to take away our reproach and other Indigenes of this community to emulate him and contribute their bits towards the development of this town”

In his response, the lawmaker, who represents Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency II, said the honour challenges him to do more.

“I thank God that Igbemo people, led by our traditional ruler, recognised my contribution to the development of this town, and that is why I am being rewarded with this title, and it is a call to do more, and I will continue to do more like I promised, and I will not let them down. I will do my best to uplift this town and my constituency”.

Jamiu, while advising other Indigenes, urged them to contribute their own quotas to the town’s development: “I also preach unity. We should all be united.

It is when we are united that the town can make progress. That is my charge to them. We should all come together and make this our little London great.”
