As online dating becomes increasingly popular in Nigeria, Tramatch International Ltd is stepping up its efforts to ensure user safety by leveraging cutting-edge technology to combat scams and fraud.
The faith-based matchmaking platform, known for connecting individuals seeking serious, long-term relationships, has introduced advanced Know Your Customer (KYC) verification and AI-driven fraud detection to protect its growing user base.
Co-founder, Elijah Bassey , revealed these new measures during a webinar, emphasising that dating scams have become a significant issue in the online dating world.
He explained that fraudsters often create fake profiles using stolen images, making it difficult for genuine users to find meaningful connections.
He said, “ In response, Tramatch has introduced a mandatory identity verification process for all users, requiring them to upload a profile picture and pass a liveness test to ensure their photos match their real identity.
“We’re setting ourselves apart by going the extra mile in security,” said Bassey. “Every profile is verified to ensure that users are who they claim to be.”
With the global online dating market expected to grow from $11.32 billion in 2025 to $21.71 billion by 2034, Nigeria’s online dating scene is also expanding rapidly, with over 60,000 active users monthly across various platforms. Tramatch alone has about 200,000 registered users actively searching for their perfect match.
Tramatch is also taking a proactive approach by working with relevant authorities to identify and report fraudulent activity, assuring users that the platform prioritizes security and transparency.
Bassey also highlighted Tramatch’s strict verification policies, which are designed to detect and block common fraud tactics such as: Fake foreign identities, men posing as women
impostors, using stolen pictures and false information.
These measures, coupled with AI-driven fraud detection, help minimize risks like catfishing and identity theft, ensuring that users can connect with genuine, verified individuals.
In addition, Tramatch has introduced proximity-based matching, allowing users to connect with verified matches nearby. This feature reduces the risks of long-distance deception and promotes authentic, faith-based relationships grounded in shared values.
Tramatch, founded in 2023, aims to provide a secure and transparent platform for individuals who value religious and cultural definitions of marriage. Whether monogamous or polygamous, the platform welcomes members from various faiths, including Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Jews, and LDS members, seeking committed, enduring relationships.
As the online dating industry grows, Tramatch continues to lead the charge in creating a safer and more trustworthy environment for users to find lasting love.
