The Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai has carried out a joint offensive against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists at the Kopre Mountain general area of Hong local government area of Adamawa State and eliminated 21 terrorists.
The raid followed an ongoing search and rescue mission to rescue abducted persons from the terrorists.
A statement from the acting military information officer at the headquarters of the Joint Task Force, Captain Mohammed Goni, said a joint force comprising the Office of the National Security Adviser tactical team and newly inducted troops of the 226 Battalion recently deployed to Sector 4 in Adamawa State under the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu acting on credible intelligence conducted a stealth insertion into the target area.
He said the joint force penetrated the terrorists’ enclave and launched a strike on the camp in the early hours of Thursday.
He explained that the operation was conducted in furtherance of sustained efforts to locate and rescue victims being held by terrorist elements, including persons abducted from Mussa community in May and the Lassa school children abducted in June.
Accordingly, troops during the operation successfully closed in on the terrorist camp and engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters.
“Following fierce engagements, over 21 terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds,” he said.
He said the joint force subsequently dominated the area, dismantled the entire terrorist camp and destroyed associated logistics infrastructure, thereby further degrading the terrorists’ operational capability within the area.
