A nursery worker in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to at least 24 years in prison for sexually abusing young children under his care.

Nathan Bennett, 30, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court in southwest England after being found guilty of multiple offences involving five boys aged between two and three.

Delivering the judgment, Judge William Hart described Bennett as an “incorrigible and dangerous paedophile,” noting that he prioritised his own sexual gratification over the welfare of the children entrusted to his care.

Bennett was convicted last month of eight counts including rape, sexual assault and assault by penetration involving five children.

He had earlier admitted to 13 additional offences relating to four of the same victims, who were two years old at the time of the abuse.

Prosecutor Gemma Kneebone said Bennett repeatedly exploited his position as a childcare worker to abuse the children.

The incidents occurred at the Partou King Street Nursery, where Bennett began working in 2024.

Concerns about his conduct emerged in February 2025 after CCTV footage reportedly showed him assaulting a child.

Families of the affected children said the abuse continued despite earlier concerns raised with staff members at the nursery.

In a statement issued through law firm Leigh Day, the families said warnings about Bennett were not properly followed up.

They added that some of the abuse might have been prevented if appropriate action had been taken sooner.

Lawyer Andrew Lord, representing the families, said they are seeking answers, accountability and assurances that safeguarding measures in childcare facilities have been strengthened.

The case comes weeks after another childcare worker, Vincent Chan, was jailed for 18 years for sexually abusing children during nap time at a nursery in London.

Following that case, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the government is considering making security cameras mandatory in nurseries as part of measures to improve child safety.
