Ohagwa, who is to pilot the affairs of the organisation towards promoting peace, stability, and development within the next five years, took over from Prof. Funmilayo Davies whose tenure ended in December 2024.

At the inauguration in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the director general of UNPOLAC, Prof. Halo Eton, noted that the appointment was with immediate effect.

He urged the new country president to bring to bear his wealth of experience and expertise, having demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a strong commitment to the values of UN-POLAC.

“We are delighted to welcome Engr Peter Ohagwa as our new Country President. His appointment is a testament to his dedication to the cause of peace and development, and we are confident that he will lead UN-POLAC to even greater heights,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, the new country president expressed gratitude to all members of the organisation for the new elevation and pledged his loyalty to the members of UN-POLAC as well as resolved to work collaboratively with every peace advocate within the federation .

“I wish to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our Iron Lady and Our indefatigable Secretary General of UN-POLAC, Dr Mrs Patricia Agu,, the six Regional Directors and all the State Coordinators as well as others who contributed immensely to my success stories during my tenure as the Deputy Country President. Your endorsement and confidence in my abilities have been invaluable,” he stated.

The new president highlighted some of his action plans towards repositioning the organisation in peacebuilding in the country.

He said, “Our policies and programmes must be guided by the provision of the UN-POLAC constitution and bylaws; henceforth, we shall have at least 40 per cent business and 60 per cent peace propagation in Nigeria.

“Recognising the pressing need for accessibility in internet connectivity, we have expanded our website to meet international best practices.”

Ohagwa also added that five subcommittees have already been established to drive his administration’s transformative action plan.
