The University of Jos (UniJos), Plateau State, has declared its full readiness to host the 2025 edition of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), scheduled to take place in November.
Vice chancellor of UNIJOS, Professor Tanko Ishaya, made the announcement during a courtesy visit by the NUGA 2025 consultant, Hon Shehu Ataboh, and his team, accompanied by the General Manager of Plateau State Tourism Corporation, Mr. Chuwang Pwajok.
Professor Ishaya emphasized the institution’s commitment to delivering a world-class university games experience, highlighting the university’s ongoing construction of Nigeria’s first-ever sports village—an ambitious project expected to evolve into a full-fledged sports institute.
“We are redefining university sports in Nigeria. The sports village we’re developing will not only host this year’s NUGA but will also serve as a legacy for future sporting excellence. UniJos is ready, and as one of the leading institutions in West Africa, we are excited to welcome athletes and visitors from across the country,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the Plateau State Government and the NUGA consultant for their support in promoting sports development.
In his remarks, Hon Shehu Ataboh commended the university’s preparations and vision, describing the facilities and plans on the ground as impressive and well-aligned with national objectives for youth and sports development.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee led the delegation on an inspection of the sports village under construction and assured that all facilities would be ready in time for the November games.
The 2025 NUGA Games promise to be a landmark event, with UniJos aiming to set a new standard for university sports in Nigeria.
