A 20-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos told an Ikeja High Court she was allegedly raped by her lecturer, Dr Samuel Ojogbo.

Led in evidence by State Counsel, Mr Owolabi Azeez, the student alleged the lecturer forcefully raped her in his underground office.

She said on Aug. 21, 2025, she was writing an exam when the defendant asked if questions reflected her reading.

“I said yes, I knew a section better. He told me not to worry and to see him after the exam,” she said.

She said she visited his office twice but did not meet him.

“The next day, Aug. 22, I had another exam. The defendant supervised it. Afterwards, I saw him and he asked me to wait,” she added.

She said she followed him to an underground office without windows or a secretary.

“We sat and discussed the exam. Two students entered; he dismissed them and asked me to shut the door.

“As I closed it, he stood behind me, pushed me onto a couch and began touching me.

“He caressed me, forced himself on me and raped me,” she said, weeping in court.

“Afterwards, he said he would supervise my final-year project and collected my number,” she added. She said she left crying and reported the incident to a friend.

The witness said they reported to a lecturer, who contacted her uncle, also a lecturer in the department. She said they proceeded to the Head of Department’s office.

“He asked for evidence and why I did not record it. The defendant denied the allegation. The HOD advised us to let it go and be more careful with lecturers,” she added.

She said her uncle insisted on pursuing the matter, prompting a report to Servicom and a visit to the medical centre.

She said she later reported to the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, which referred her to Bariga Police Station and WARIF for further tests.

“I underwent tests at WARIF and returned to the police. The case was moved to the gender unit,” she said.

She added that the defendant’s family later sought a meeting.

Justice Oyindamola Ogala adjourned the case until April 27 for cross-examination.

The defendant faces a two-count charge of sexual assault and rape by the Lagos State Government.

Prosecution said the offences contravene Sections 260 and 263(1) of Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, which prescribe life imprisonment upon conviction.
