Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has applauded the collaborative approach between the federal and Oyo State governments that led to the rescue of the pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire local government area of Oyo State,

A statement signed by the national president of ASUSS, Comrade Sola Adigun, the union praised President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde for their commitment to securing the release of the victims through coordinated security efforts involving federal and state authorities.

The union also applauded the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, the Oyo State government, and other security agencies for their professionalism, resilience, and collaboration, which culminated in the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers after weeks in captivity.

Adigun, who described the development as a significant milestone in the nation’s fight against insecurity, noted that the successful operation has brought relief to the families of the victims, members of the education community, and Nigerians who had anxiously followed the incident.

While celebrating the rescue, Adigun expressed sympathy for the victims and their families over the trauma they endured during their captivity and called for adequate medical care, psychological counselling, and rehabilitation to aid their recovery and reintegration.

He further urged the federal and state governments to strengthen security around schools nationwide, stressing that educational institutions must remain safe havens for teaching and learning.

Adigun also appealed to the federal government, security agencies, state governments, and all relevant stakeholders not to relent in their efforts until every Nigerian still being held by kidnappers and other criminal groups regains freedom.

He reaffirmed ASUSS’s commitment to advocating for the safety and welfare of teachers and students, noting that quality education can only thrive in a peaceful, secure environment where learners and educators can fulfil their responsibilities without fear.
